SPLASH CAFÉ AND ITS….
CHOWDER:
All of the seafood we prepare in our café is prepped fresh every day. Our
fish & chips are the best you’ve had; we serve huge scallops, delicious
oysters and the best calamari the coast can provide!! But even more than all
the fresh seafood, Splash café is known for its Clam Chowder.
For 14 years Splash Café in Pismo Beach has been cooking up its award
winning clam chowder. Our chowder has taken first place in contests every
year. We have been featured in numerous Sunset Magazine articles and have
won the “Best Restaurant outside SLO” by the students at Cal Poly! We are
dedicated to using only the highest quality ingredients when we make our
chowder. Tender, flavorful clams and the richest freshest dairy combine with
sautéed vegetables (NO bacon) to create the chowder that amazes everyone.
Served up in a fresh sourdough bread bowl that we bake ourselves, it’s a
meal to rival any other!! The café in Pismo Beach serves well over 10,000
gallons a year in more than 250,000 bread bowls!!
Our chowder is available fresh frozen to take home or you can ship it
anywhere in the continental U.S. It makes a great gift for someone who needs
a little beach in their lives!!!!
SPLASH CAFÉ ~ ARTISAN BREAD:
ARTISAN BREAD ... WHAT IS IT???
Before the Industrial Revolution, all bread was artisan bread. Making bread
was a struggle. Today, the word “artisan” sounds good, but it isn't always
accurate. Artisan should mean made with pride by human hands using pure &
natural ingredients. Bakeries that rely on frozen doughs or on chemical
additives are not producing artisan breads. Bread is often considered to be
the staff of life. Artisan bread, made with love, good ingredients, and
care, can fulfill that function.
At Splash Café ~ Artisan Bakery...while we rely on machinery to reduce our
labor cost and the cost of the finished product, we still use quality,
natural ingredients and each artisan bread is shaped by the baker’s hands.
We often add a “liquid levain”, a type of sourdough ferment that contributes
complex flavors. In most of our breads, we use organic flour. Using it helps
reduce the agrochemicals that are sprayed on the land and eventually pollute
our water.
Certain breads are offered daily. We always have baguettes and ciabattas,
sourdough bread bowls and whole grain loaves. Every day we also have a
special bread: challah, limpa, wheat-free, pumpernickel, black olive are a
few examples. In addition to our artisan breads we offer a variety of
breakfast pastries, cinnamon rolls and desserts. All of our delicious
pastries are made daily from scratch using only the finest natural
ingredients.
But where do all those sourdough bread bowls for the famous Clam Chowder
come from?? Everyday after baking all those beautiful artisan breads and
pastries we switch into high gear and start madly producing bread bowls for
the café. We have to produce over 1,000 bread bowls a day to keep up with
the demands of our café customers. You can watch our bakers shape loaves and
load them into a revolving rack oven or laminate Danish dough with pure
butter through large observation windows that expose the whole bakery. So
come in and enjoy some beautiful, handcrafted breads and pastries and watch
our bakers at work!
SPLASH CAFÉ... AND FINE CHOCOLATES????
In days gone by, chocolate was chocolate. Who knew where it came from? For
the consumer there were two choices of chocolate: cheap/domestic and
expensive/imported.
Today, we're into varietals. Varietal wines. Microbrewed beers.
Single-malt scotches. And with chocolates, it's Forastero, Criollo, Ivory
Coast, and Venezuela.
Sweet Earth Organic Chocolates offers a different perspective on
chocolate: delicious quality chocolate with a social conscience. All of the
chocolates we create our made with 100% organic, fair trade chocolate. Our
chocolates start in the pods hanging off lichen-encrusted trees on the Fair
Trade Certified ™ Conacado Farmer's Cooperative of the Dominican Republic.
Fair Trade certification guarantees the chocolate lover that no abusive
child labor was involved in the production of the bean. It also guarantees a
fair price to the farmers, so they are more able to raise a family on the
fruits of their trees. Like any other cocoa bean, once harvested they are
fermented and dried at the source, then shipped to the chocolate producer,
where the beans are carefully roasted, ground and made into usable
chocolate.
The world of chocolate production is divided into the Roasters and the
Melters. We are Melters. We work wizardry with the chocolate we buy,
juxtaposing one flavor or one texture against another. Candied ginger &
dried cranberries with dark chocolate create one fabulous flavor combination
while our Chocolate Peanut Crunch bar contrasts the creaminess of organic
peanut butter and milk chocolate with the crunch of organic crisped rice,
all coated with rich, dark chocolate.
We offer many products for sale at the café: chocolate bars, chocolate
truffles, chocolate bark, gourmet cocoa, handmade marshmallows dipped in
chocolate and many more mouth watering delights!! Visit our web site

socially enhancing chocolates!
